Everything you need to turn ICC profiles into reliable 3D LUTs. Browse common questions, step-by-step guidance, and feature specifics for LUT Lab.

Quick-start workflow

  1. Launch LUT Lab and choose Browse Profiles to surface every ICC file available on your Mac.
  2. Select one or more profiles, then review metadata including device class, primaries, and tone curves.
  3. Open the Preview tab to inspect LUT renders, gamut coverage, and 3D overlays.
  4. Choose export formats (.cube, .3dl, .dat) and configure grid resolution, output bit depth, and filename templates.
  5. Click Export LUTs. Files land in your chosen destination, ready for grading apps or monitor upload utilities.

Feature highlights

  • ColorSync-backed ICC sampling for consistent RGB mapping.
  • Batch processing queues with per-profile overrides.
  • In-app change log and LUT comparison to track revisions.
  • Metadata-rich exports: device link notes, source ICC path, and generation timestamp.
  • Optional gamut padding and highlight roll-off controls for creative looks.

Frequently asked questions

Which ICC profiles are supported?

Any RGB display-class ICC profile installed on macOS. LUT Lab automatically locates profiles from System, User, and application-specific folders. Profiles stored elsewhere can be imported manually.

Can I export larger LUT grids?

Yes. Choose 17³, 33³, or 65³ grids with selectable output precision. Higher density grids take slightly longer to compute but provide smoother tone transitions.

How do I verify a LUT before deployment?

Use the preview workspace to visualize cube slices, neutral ramps, and sample chips. You can also open exported LUTs directly in third-party viewers for additional validation.

Does LUT Lab work offline?

Absolutely. LUT Lab processes everything locally on your Mac, making it ideal for on-set or secure environments without network access.
